Jussi Björling exhibition in the foyer

26 June – 28 July (Tue–Sat, 12–9pm)

Court singer Johan Jonatan “Jussi” Björling (1911–1960) was one of Sweden’s most successful opera singers. This exhibition collects photos, costumes, films and audio recordings, and is situated in our foyer.

Björling was a world-famous Swedish opera and concert singer, beloved for his beautiful vocal tone. He performed roles – such as Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Juan, Rodolphe in Bohème, the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto and Radamès in Aïda – on stages all over the world, from La Scala to Covent Garden. The Metropolitan in New York was Jussi’s home stage for over 20 years. In 1944 he was dubbed court singer in Sweden, and in 1945 was awarded the royal Swedish medal Litteris et Artibus.
