Wine tasting

The Göteborg Opera's sommelier, Ousainou Mbye, will guide you through a selection of wines.

1. Grape tastinG

Try four wines made from the same grape – but from different countries. What is it that makes it possible for wine from the Chardonnay grape to taste so many different ways? What distinguishes them as regards growing location, climate and production?

2. Part of the world

Taste four wines from the same part of the world and discover the unique features of each specific region. A European tasting takes us through an Italian Sangiovese, a French Bordeaux, a Spanish Rioja and a Portuguese Touriga Nacional. You can also travel through South America and discover an Argentinian Malbec, an Argentinian Bonarda, a Chilean Carménere and a Tannat from Uruguay.

3. Cheese & wine in combination

We will taste four cheeses together with four wines. The classic combination for a cheeseboard is a strong red wine, a bunch of grapes and rings of sweet pepper or slices of pear. Is this really the ultimate combination? The cheeses you select, how strong a flavour they have, how long they have been stored, are all important things to bear in mind when choosing what to drink with your cheese selection. For example, a sweeter wine is often more appropriate than a dry.

4. Food & wine in combination

We will be tasting four wines along with the five basic tastes – salty, sweet, bitter, sour and umami – and work out what works well and what absolutely does not. Why do we choose certain wines for certain dishes? What happens when we combine very dry wines with salty flavours? And why ought we to choose sweeter wines to have with hotter dishes?

5. Champagne tasting

Let the world's sparkling wines challenge genuine champagne!

How do a Spanish Cava and a South African Cap Classique stand up against the pride of France? In this tasting session, you will learn a little about the history of champagne, its production process, vinification etc. Will you find the champagne? Sample, enjoy and give your opinion.

Minimum 10 people. The wine tasting will last around 1.5 hours.
A reservation must be made at least four weeks before the Wine tasting.
