Stephen Langridge, Artistic Director Opera/Drama at the Göteborg Opera, has been appointed new Artistic Director for the prestigious opera company Glyndebourne. He will remain at the Göteborg Opera until summer 2019.
– The Göteborg Opera is remarkable in every sense, and I’ve truly loved my five years here. The Glyndebourne assignment is probably the only job that I would even consider leaving the Göteborg Opera for, Stephen Langridge says.

During Gothenburg’s Culture Festival and EuroPride between the 14th and 19th of August, the Göteborg Opera presents several programmes – all free of charge. GöteborgsOperans Danskompani perform the praised dance piece Untitled black. Soloists, musical artists, the Göteborg Operan’s Chorus and Orchestra perform highlights from the coming season.
Also: the family show Hansel & Gretel’s Opera Adventure, and as a part of EuroPride, the concert A Tribute to Bernstein: 100 Years.

In connection to the preparatory rehearsal of the opera Boris Godunov on Tuesday, April 17, there was a conflict between Peter Konwitschny and co-workers around the stage. Konwitschny acted in a manner which contravenes with the Göteborg Opera's view regarding how we work together and how to express oneself among co-workers. The following day, the project management had a conversation with him, and the management at the Göteborg Opera chose to terminate the cooperation.

The eco-friendly end of the world in Wagner’s Ring Cycle. Disney’s Hunchback of Notre Dame – The Musical with high-tech set design and some of the audience seated on the stage. Kerstin Avemo alone on stage, fabulous Mozart and Puccini, and a world first by Frida Andrée and Selma Lagerlöf.
On top of all that, there are new dance works by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, Marina Mascarell and Jo Strømgren. First encounters with exciting choreographers Hofesh Shechter and Crystal Pite. International tours and a brand new dance festival.

Explosive, communicative, minimalistic and extravagant. World premiere S & S 3rd of March presents new dance creations by acclaimed choreographers Sharon Eyal and Sang Jijia. Performed by GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, that recently have received two prestigious national awards.

It is with great pride and joy we announce that GöteborgsOperans Danskompani has been awarded The Swedish Theatre Critics’ Association’s Dance Prize 2017, following a vote among the country’s theatre and dance critics. This is the first time the prize has been awarded to a whole dance company.
