Peter and the Wolf

Family concert at The Göteborg Opera
Sunday August 22 at 1 pm and 3 pm

Two free performances of Prokofiev’s symphonic tale marks the start of The Göteborg Opera’s new focus on children and young people.

Peter and the Wolf is perhaps the world’s most famous musical tale for children. Prokofiev wrote both the tale and the music, and the original première took place in 1936. Both humans and animals have their own instrument in Peter and the Wolf , and are given such distinct voices and melodies that they are never forgotten. The story is about the little boy Peter who makes friends with the little bird in order to outsmart the wolf. The brave boy manages to catch the wolf and then persuades the hunters not to shoot it, but take it to a zoo instead. Göteborg Opera soloist Lars Hjertner is the story teller. As a music theatre artist, he has performed in many Göteborg Opera productions, such as the title role in Charlie Chaplin – en lek med allvar (Charlie Chaplin – Playing with Gravity) ; Northbrook in Mary Poppins; Lumière in The Beauty and the Beast and Sven in The Rocky Horror Show. Lars Hjertner has also achieved popularity as the story teller in The Göteborg Opera Story Foyer.

The symphony is performed by The Göteborg Opera Orchestra, led by conductor Johan Larsson. He graduated from Kungliga Musikhögskolan (The Royal College of Music) in Stockholm in the spring of 2010. He has previously conducted the Gävle Symphony Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra at NorrlandsOperan, and the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra, among others. His professional début as an opera conductor was in 2009 with Rossini’s L'Italiana in Algeri at the Läckö Slottsopera (Läckö Palace Opera). In the summer of 2010 he returned to this venue to conduct Rossini’s The Thieving Magpie. This coming autumn he will assist Pier Giorgio Morandi at Kungliga Operan (the Royal Swedish Opera).

Peter and the Wolf will be performed on the Main Stage at The Göteborg Opera on Sunday August 22 at 1 pm and 3 pm. The concert lasts for approximately 30 minutes. Please note that both performances are already fully booked. For review tickets please contact the below.

Peter and the Wolf marks the start of this season’s focus on children and young people at The Göteborg Opera. Other productions that form part of this focus include music theatre (Min mamma är en drake - My Mum Is a Dragon); musical tales (Babar); a premiere stage production of the original play Lova och Sam (Lova and Sam); and a family concert based on the works of Astrid Lindgren.
