Johannes Öhman is resigning from the Göteborg Opera.

The summer of 2011 will be Öhman's last season as Head of Ballet.

– After careful consideration I have decided to resign from the Göteborg Opera as it has recently become increasingly difficult for me to find a sustainable work-life balance, as my family lives in Stockholm. The Göteborg Opera is a fantastic opera house to work for, and the Göteborg Ballet dance company has developed immensely. They have all the means necessary to continue working toward the vision of being one of the top contemporary dance companies in Europe," says Johannes Öhman.

Johannes Öhman took up the position as Head of Ballet in the summer of 2007. Early on in his tenure he established his vision for the Göteborg Ballet; for it to be one of the dance companies at the forefront of European contemporary dance.

– We are very happy with the job Johannes Öhman has done in his role as Head of Ballet. He has developed the dance company in a very successful manner, both nationally and internationally. We of course lament the need for him to take this decision, but we will continue to develop the company along the lines so successfully drawn up by Johannes, using all efforts possible," says CEO Peter Hansson.

The Opera will shortly start the recruitment process for a new Head of Ballet. Next season's Göteborg Ballet program is already fully planned, and will be presented during a press conference in the spring of 2011.
