Review performance at the Göteborg Opera on Thursday December 16 from 11:30 am
World première at the Göteborg Opera on Saturday December 18 at 6 pm

Based on the theme of Beethoven's immortal music, two contemporary choreographers have created a new evening of dance for the Göteborg Ballet - Eroica. The music will be performed by world class pianist Roland Pöntinen and the Göteborg Opera Orchestra.

The production is named after Beethoven's symphony No. 3 - Eroica. The symphony will be performed by The Göteborg Opera Orchestra, under conductor Eri Klas. Promising Slovak choreographer Lukáš Timulak has choreographed the performance accompanying Symphony No. 3. Lukáš Timulak was a dancer with the Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) for ten years, before he made the decision to become a full-time choreographer. He has previously created pieces for NDT 1, NDT 2 and the Slovak National Theatre, among others. This is the first time he has created a work for the Göteborg Ballet.

One of Sweden's foremost contemporary choreographers, Örjan Andersson, has created the other two parts of the production. They will be performed to the accompaniment of Beethoven's 32 Variations in C Minor and piano sonata No. 8 in C Minor (Pathétique). Both pieces will be performed by world-class pianist Roland Pöntinen. Örjan Andersson is famous for his personal and visually arresting style, marked by a strong musical influence. He has created productions for ensembles including the Cullberg Ballet, Nederlands Dans Theater 1, Compañia Nacional de Danza in Madrid and his own dance company Andersson Dance. Eroica is his third work created for the Göteborg Ballet.

Roland Pöntinen made his début in 1981 with Kungliga Filharmonikerna (the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra) and has since then been performing with the leading orchestras in Europe, the US, South Korea, South America, Australia and New Zealand. Along the way, he has created an impressive repertoire, ranging from Bach to Ligeti. He is also a dedicated chamber musician and regularly performs with violinist Ulf Wallin, clarinettist Martin Fröst and soprano Barbara Hendricks, as well as performing duets with fellow pianist Love Derwinger. He has performed at a large number of international festivals. Roland Pöntinen has recorded over 90 performances and also works as a composer. He is a member of Kungliga Musikaliska Akademin (the Royal Swedish Academy of Music).

Renowned Estonian conductor Eri Klas will perform at the Göteborg Opera for the first time. He has previously been the principal conductor of Kungliga Operan (the Royal Swedish Opera) in Stockholm; the Århus Symphony Orchestra and the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra; in addition to working with over 100 other symphony orchestras in 40 different countries. He is the musical director of the Tallinn Philharmonic Orchestra and has since 2006 also been the Chief Conductor of the Novaya Opera in Moscow.
