Einstein and the Guest House

World première at The Göteborg Opera September18, 2010 at 6 pm

The Göteborg Ballet are purposefully working towards their goal of becoming one of the leading companies within contemporary dance. The season starts off with two world premières in one single night.

Brazilian Fernando Melo has created The Guest House. He also dances in The Göteborg Ballet, and this is the third production he has choreographed for the company. In The Guest House the doors open on a magical journey through everyday chores. The costumes and stage design have been created by the multi-faceted artist, designer, writer and art director Patrick Kinmonth, whose previous achievements, in addition to the great European opera houses also include working with The Metropolitan Museum, Vogue and Valentino.

Portuguese Rui Horta has created his first ever work for The Göteborg Opera in Einstein’s Dreams, which features intensely physical choreography based on the themes of time and space. He has also created the stage design, costumes and light design and worked together with video artist Guilherme Martins and composer Tiago Cerqueira. Rui Horta has worked internationally as a choreographer since the 80s and his current aesthetic is increasingly more expressionistic. As a freelance choreographer he has created works for the Nederlands Dans Theater II, the Cullberg Ballet and the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, among others.
