Dance with Skapa
Skapa Dance focuses on reaching out to children and youth, through dance.
Skapa Dance welcomes everyone who is curious to learn more about dance, explore dance as an art form and meet dancers from GöteborgsOperans Danskompani in new situations. The Skapa Dance sessions offer individuals and groups opportunities to experience and explore contemporary dance and its possibilities through conversations, workshops, physical activities, open rehearsals, after-dance talks and much more.
The Göteborg Opera's youngest audience members and their parents can take part in Dance with Baby sessions. Young people are invited to join GöteborgsOperans Danskompani’s Youth Ambassadors. You can also participate in various activities and performances such as Recreate: The Ministry, Skapa Days, Family Foyer and more. During the season 2019/2020, Skapa Dance worked with Cirkus Unik, a circus school in Gothenburg, and with a dance group at the Restad Gård Migration Centre in Vänersborg. Both of these organisations focus on the joy of movement, placing emphasis on social integration and strengthening children’s self-confidence.
Contemporary dance and contemporary circus have a lot in common. This was clearly shown in Beyond, a production with GöteborgsOperans Danskompani which saw its world premiere in March 2020. Skapa Dance links together these common characteristics in a collaboration with Cirkus Unik’s “Lilla kompani” (youth company) for children aged 10–12. Through shared training sessions and visits to The Göteborg Opera and Circus Unik, we meet to promote exchange and learning between children studying circus skills and dancers from GöteborgsOperans Danskompani. Cirkus Unik operates in several districts of Gothenburg and focuses strongly on self-confidence, cooperation and inclusion.
All under the same sun -
Restad Gård Migration Centre
GöteborgsOperans Danskompani has a collaboration with the dance group “Alla under samma sol” where children aged 3 to 16 dance together several times a week at the Restad Gård Migration Centre and in central Vänersborg. The initiative is run by dance teacher Olga Gnida and the Support Group Network in Vänersborg. The children participating include asylum seekers, newly arrived Swedes and Swedish citizens. Dancers Joseba Yerro Izaguirre and Einar Nikkerud from The Göteborg Opera and dance coordinator Anna Karlander have visited them several times in Vänersborg, and the children have visited The Göteborg Opera. The focus is on human interaction and exchange between individuals from different cultures and generations, facilitated by dance and its many expressive possibilities.
Dance with Baby
A dance class for parents with babies who haven’t yet started crawling or walking (about 3–8 months). These joyful dance sessions for you and your baby provide a light but strengthening workout. They also offer an inspiring insight into GöteborgsOperans Danskompani and The
Göteborg Opera’s activities. New parents commonly feel they have to put their own needs and interests on hold, such as cultural experiences and exercise.
Dance with Baby is led by Angelina Allen de Melo from GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, offering a combination of culture and movement for you and your child. No prior experience needed.
Dates and times to be announced here.
GöteborgsOperans Danskompani’s Youth Ambassadors – a continuation of our Meet the Ministry project
The young participants who took part in our Meet the Ministry project are now our pioneers as members of Young Ambassadors, a reference group of young people who have chosen to be closely involved in The Göteborg Opera’s operations for one or more seasons. These young people represent us, introduce new audience members to The Göteborg Opera, participate in projects onstage and behind the scenes, guide other youth groups visiting the opera and much more. The activities are designed in dialogue between young people and the Skapa initiative. Young Ambassadors will be further developed during the autumn of 2020.
Meet the Ministry
During the 2018/2019 season, a group of young people participated in Meet the Ministry, an initiative offering unique insight into the professional and creative process behind choreographer Jo Strømgren's dance work the Ministry of Unresolved Feelings. Together with dancers from GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, the participants experimented with movement and narrative forms and created their own online series about how a dance production is created.
