Riikka Laakso is a Finnish freelance choreographer, dramaturg and scholar based in Barcelona. She received her PhD in Performing Arts at Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona in 2015. Fascinated by the uncanny places and moments formed through corporealities, her main interests in dance are gender, embodying thought, poetry of flesh and non-linear structures. She works with dance, theater and writing, currently collaborating with independent choreographers Sanna Kekäläinen and Marina Mascarell. She also develops research, both in academic environments and opening up the mysteries of contemporary dance for future professionals and wider audiences, with University of the Arts Helsinki, Zodiak - Center for New Dance, Artistic Doctorates in Europe (ADiE), Institute of the Arts Barcelona and Aerowaves.
