Paul Nilon is established as one of Europe’s outstanding lyric tenors in a wide repertoire ranging from Monteverdi to Britten.
In opera he has worked for most of the major British opera companies and companies abroad include the the Göteborg Opera, Bayerische Staatsoper, Netherlands Opera, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Deutsche Oper Berlin, San Francisco Opera and Dallas Opera.
His engagements include the title role in Idomeneo for the Göteborg Opera and ENO, Chartkov in Weinberg’s The Portrait, Albert Gregor (The Makropulos Case) and the title role of La clemenza di Tito for Opera North, Aschenbach (Death in Venice) for the Garsington Opera, and Deutsche Oper Berlin, Ulisse (Il ritorno di Ulisse in Patria) for The Grange Festival, Bajazet (Tamerlano) and Idomeneo for the Buxton Festival, Grimoaldo (Rodelinda) for the Bolshoi, Paolo (Maometto II) and Ermione for Volkstheater Rostov and the world premiere of Life is a Dream by Jonathan Dove.
In demand as a concert artist he works regularly with all of the leading UK orchestras as well as many in Europe with engagements including Dvořák’s Stabat Mater, Beethoven Symphony no. 9, Elgar’s The Kingdom, Rachmaninov’s The Bells, The Dream of Gerontius, Britten Serenade, Mozart Requiem, Messiah, Stanford’s Stabat Mater.
