Icelandic baritone Olafur Sigurdarson has appeared in opera houses throughout Europe, in Australia, Japan and Mexico in roles such as Rigoletto, Falstaff, Simon Boccanegra, Iago, Scarpia, Flying Dutchman, Telramund and Alberich, to name but a few.
He made his US debut in the title role of Falstaff at Opera Omaha followed immediately by Rigoletto at Minnesota Opera and then further performances in the title role of Falstaff at Opera Colorado.
Most recent engagements have included Macbeth at the National Opera in Prague, Telramund in Katharina Wagner’s new Lohengrin at the Liceu in Barcelona, Miller for ENO in London and the title role in Wozzeck at the Finnish National Opera.
Olafur’s debut as The Flying Dutchman in 2014 was ecstatically reviewed, for which he received the rarely bestowed honorary membership of the Richard Wagner Association in Saarland (RWV).
He has also been awarded both the Icelandic Music Awards and the Icelandic Theater Awards for his portrayal of Rigoletto and Scarpia.
Alberich continues to be a major part of Olafur’s core repertoire with scheduled appearances in the new upcoming Ring at Bayreuth Festival and at the NCPA in Beijing.
