Olafur Sigurdarson is an Icelandic baritone who frequently guests opera houses in Europe as well as USA.
At opera houses such as Finnish National Opera, Saarländisches Staatstheater Saarbrücken, Volksoper Vienna, Opera Grange Park, Opera North, Opera Omaha, Opera Colorado and Staatsoper Hannover he has sung the title roles in / Der Fliegende Holländer, Rigoletto, Falstaff, Macbeth, Le Nozze di Figaro and Simon Boccanegra as well as Captain Balstrode in Peter Grimes and Scarpia in Tosca.
Sigurdarson has also done the role of Alberich in Das Rheingold, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung at Staatstheater Darmstad, Telramund in Lohengrin in Wiesbaden, Basel and Regensburg, and the same role at Prague National Theatre and Klingsor in Parsifal, Pizarro in Fidelio and Barak in Die Frau ohne Schatten. He has also sung Scarpia in Tosca at Iceland Opera and at Staatstheater Braunschweig. Other roles include Michele in Il Tabarro, Méphistophélès in La Damnation de Faust, Tonio in I Pagliacci , Jack Rance i La Fanciulla del West, Gerard in Andrea Chenier and Barnaba in La Gioconda.
At Den Jyske Opera in Denmark he did the role of Obersten in the world premiere of Brothers. He is a frequent guest on the concert platform, Olafur’s appearances include Carmina Burana in Warwick under Paul McGrath, Sea Symphony of Vaughn Williams with the Milton Keynes Chorale, Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder with the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra under Rumon Gamba, Haydn’s Creation for the Covent Garden Festival, and Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis and Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death, both with the ISO conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy. He appeared at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, on BBC Radio Scotland, and on numerous occasions on Icelandic Radio and Television.
Olafur Sigurdarson has won several award, such as the Icelandic Music Award for The Sin ger of the Year 2010 and the Audience Award at Opera Holland Park for his interpretations of Rigoletto and Falstaff.
For his interpretation of the Hollender in Der Fliegende Holländer he he received the rarely bestowed honorary membership of the Richard Wagner Association in Saarland (RWV)
