Nick Davies

After completing his studies at the Royal College of Music, Davies started his career primarily within musicals. In London's West End alone he has been musical director for about ten productions, including The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady and The Phantom of the Opera. For Les Misérables he was musical supervisor in productions in Germany, Finland and Belgium and was also musical director for the concert tour of Scandinavia. In addition, he was also musical director and conductor for the world premiere of Disney/ Cameron Mackintosh's Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre and in 2006 he was musical director for Evita at the Adelphi Theatre.

Nick Davies has been engaged by a number of orchestras in Europe including the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Hallé Orchestra, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. At the New York City Opera, he was musical director for Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella. In Scandinavia he has been supervisor and conductor for the musicals Miss Saigon, Evita, Beauty and the Beast, The Three-penny Opera and The Producers in Helsinki. At Oscars Theatre in Stockholm, in 2001, he conducted the first performance of Garbo – The Musical. He is also Prinicipal Conductor with the Vantaa Pops Orchestra in Finland. Since 2007 Nick Davies has been conductor at the Nobel Peace Prize gala concert in Oslo.

Davies is a frequent guest on BBC Radio 2; for example, in the famous radio show Friday Night is Music Night, and as a conductor, he is a frequently engaged by solo artists when making recordings. He made his debut in Australia in 2009 with The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra followed by The Sydney Symphony Orchestra. Most recently, his guest appearances have included those at Orchestra della Toscana, the Bergen Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. He was also conductor during the TV transmission of the Memorial Concert at the Oslo Spektrum for the victims of the Utøya massacre.

At The Göteborg Opera, Nick Davies has previously conducted My Fair Lady, Guys and Dolls, and the Twelfth Night Concert in 2011.
