Mylla Ek studied textile design, art and scenography at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy Amsterdam and in Stockholm. Since 1998, she has worked closely alongside Johan Inger, designing the set and costumes for a number of productions by the Nederlands Dans Theater, including Dream Play, So Now Then, Out of Breath, Pneuma and Empty House, among others. She has also designed set and costumes As if and costumes for Home and Home and Within Now for the Cullberg Ballet and Le Sacre at the Royal Opera Stockholm. Furthermore, she works closely with the choreographer Shintaro Oue with creations at the Korzo Theater and the Cadance Festival Den Haag, the Theatre Cirque Royal Brussel, the Israeli Opera Tel Aviv, the SITE Stockholm, the Saitama Performing Arts Center Kawaguchi and the New National Theatre Tokyo. 2008 she created the stage and costume design for Mats Ek’s Rättika – also shown with Ballett am Rhein in 2015. In 2010, Mats Ek’s pieces Den Andre and Ickea were presented with Mylla Ek’s costumes in Stockholm with Ana Laguna, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Niklas Ek. In 2018 she returned to Ballett am Rhein for her first collaboration with Remus Sucheana at the world premiere Fantaisies.
