Michael Barry trained at Birmingham University and Central School, began theatrical life as a dancer and toured extensively in plays and musicals. As a director Michael has worked with large casts, like Carmen, with a cast of three hundred, as well as small ones.
In 2001 Barry was appointed director of theatre studies for Birmingham Conservatoire and has directed and choreographed many performances of both operas and musicals. For the Royal Opera he was choreographer and movement director for The Ring Cycle. In 2011 he became associate director to Keith Warner for Andrea Chenier in Bregenz, where he was also choreographer and movement Director for The Merchant of Venice. He revived this award winning production for Polish National Opera and will do so in 2016 for WNO. Future plans for 2015 include: Peter Pan for WNO and Komische Oper Berlin and movement director/choreographer for The Great Gatsby, Semper Oper Dresden.
