South African bariton Luthando Qave is the graduate of The Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artist Development Program. Recently, he has been a frequent guest at the Swedish Royal Opera in Stockholm in parts such as Conte in Le nozze di Figaro, Fermer in Jenůfa, Marcello in La bohème and Leporello in Don Giovanni. 2015, he performed the Mandarin in Dalhalla Opera Festival’s Turandot.
His roles at the Metropolitan Opera have included Fiorello in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Yamadori in Madama Butterfly and the Herald in Otello. He’s also performed at the Bolshoi, Teatro Real in Madrid, English National Opera and the Finnish National Opera.
Luthando Qave completed his musical studies at University College of Opera in Stockholm and made his debut as Marco in Gianni Schicchi at Artscape Theatre, Cape Town. In 2006, he made his European debut as Jake in Porgy & Bess at Norrland Opera, Malmö Opera, the Norwegian Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin.
Luthando Qave is the recipient of several scholarships and awards.
