Luciano Botelho, tenor, began the 2015-16 season at Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile as Narciso in Il Turco in Italia, followed by role debut as Ernesto in Don Pasquale at Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro, Ghino Degli Armieri in Donizetti’s rarely performed Pia de’ Tolomei with English Touring Opera, and, in the summer, as Lindoro in L’italiana in Algeri at Garsington Opera. Last season’s highlights include debut at Oper Frankfurt as Elvino in La Sonnambula, a role he previously sang in Oper Stuttgart’s new production, released on DVD.
Recent successes include his debut as Giacomo La Donna del Lago at Grand Théâtre de Genève with Joyce diDonato, a role he later revived in a new production at Theater an der Wien. At Royal Opera House Covent Garden Almaviva in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and in Japan at Tokyo’s New National Theatre. Another role was Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola at Opéra de Massy, for Glyndebourne Touring Opera and at Malmo Opera. In Germany, he made his debut at Oper Koeln as Leicester in Maria Stuarda and he appears regularly in Stuttgart, where, in addition to Elvino, he inaugurated the role of Orpheé in Orpheé et Euridice.
