Henning Ruhe was born in Hamburg 1978, and studied at the University of Music Franz Liszt in Weimar. This concert pianist, winner of many awards at national and international competitions, has given many solo recitals, chamber music concerts and song recitals in Europe and America in venues including the Carnegie Hall in New York, Wigmore Hall in London, Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo, at the Lucerne Festival and in the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow. As a soloist he performed with the Staatskapelle Weimar, the Jena Philharmonie and the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Moldova.
Henning Ruhe has studied Arts Management and has worked in this capacity at the Staatsoper Berlin, Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, at IMG Artists in New York and, since 2008, at Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, as director of (sequentially) Education & Outreach, Young Artist’s Program, and International Projects & Touring. In 2017, he took up the post of Head of Artistic Administration at Bayerische Staatsoper, including repertoire planning, casting and Artistic Direction of Festival Studio within the Munich Opera Festival. Henning Ruhe is on the board of directors of Opera Europa.
Henning Ruhe was appointed new Artistic Director Opera/Drama at the Göteborg Opera in June 2019.
