Francesca Patanè

has performed on opera stages throughout the world since she first made her debut. She was born in Milan, into a musical Italian family in which her father Giuseppe Patanè and grandfather Franco Patanè were famous conductors. Her voice-type is lyrical dramatic, as in the role of Turandot, for example, (more than 300 performances), Lady Macbeth (more than 150 performances) and Richard Strauss's Salome – when she sang this in 2007 at the opera house in Rome, she was the first Italian soprano to have sung this role in Italy. In addition, Francesca Patanè is well known for her interpretations of Tosca, verismo-roles in more Puccini operas, and in works by Mascagni, Ciléa and Alfano. In recent years, she has also taken on the Wagnerian roles of Isolde and Kundry.
As an ambassador for Italian music, in collaboration with the embassies in Asia, for example, she arranges concerts and opera performances in which she promotes young talents. Francesca Patanè has received a number of prestigious awards, such as the Puccini Award and the Verdi Award, and has recorded, for example, Turandot in various productions on both video/DVD and CD.
The first time she made a guest appearance at The Göteborg Opera was in the role of Lady Macbeth in Verdi's Macbeth in 2008, and she returned in 2011 in the role of Odabella in the concert version of Verdi's Attila. In the 2012/2013 season, she sings the title role of Puccini's Turandot.
