In the season 2017/18 the soprano Elisabet Strid’s focus will entirely lie on Richard Wagner.
At the Lyric Opera Chicago, she was frenetically celebrated as SIEGLINDE in “Die Walküre”. Recently she enjoyed the same success in the same role at the Rhine Opera Düsseldorf- Duisburg. She portrays ELISABETH in “Tannhäuser” in Calixto Bieito’s new production of the Leipzig Opera House. Here, she can also be seen as BRÜNNHILDE in “Siegfried”. With the Bochum Symphonic Orchestra she sings the 1st act from Walküre and as SENTA in “Der Fliegende Holländer” she returns to the Budapest Wagner Days.
Elisabet Strid started her international career in 2010. Since then, she has been singing at such opera houses as the Dresden Semper Opera, the Norske Opera, the Helsinki National Opera, the Opéra de Lille, the Antwerp Flemish Opera, the Gothenburg Opera, the Teatro de Bellas Artes Mexico, the Cape Town Opera, at the Tampere Festival, the Festival Opera Open at the Plovdiv Antique Amphitheatre, the Baltic Sea Festival, the Budapest Wagner Days, the Wiesbaden May Festival just to name a few.
In 2013 she made her debut in the Unites States at the Michigan Opera Detroit and at the Bayreuth Festival.
The Swedish soprano impresses in the huge Wagner and Strauss parts like ELISABETH in „Tannhäuser“, SENTA in „Der Fliegende Holländer“, SIEGLINDE in „Walküre“, BRÜNNHILDE in „Siegfried“, FREIA in „Das Rheingold“, GUTRUNE in „Götterdämmerung“, ADA in „Die Feen“, IRENE in „Rienzi“, CHRISOTHEMIS in „Elektra“ and in 2017 her overwhelming debut as SALOMEat the Leipzig Opera House.
Her central roles also include RUSALKA, MADAMA BUTTERFLY and GIORGETTA in ”Il Tabarro”.
Elisabet studied singing at the Stockholm University and graduated here in 2004. Already during her studies, the young soprano made her debut at the Vastena Academy as ‚Brygitta’, in Carl Unander Scharin’s opera, which he had composed in 2003. In the same year, she sang ANTONIA in “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” at the Royal Opera Stockholm. Among her first roles there are also parts like MUSETTA in “La Bohème” (performed at the Malmö Opera House) and ELLEN in ”Peter Grimes”.
Elisabet Strid is also a very much sought-after concert soloist. Her many performances include a.o Francis Poulenc „‚Gloria“ with the Swedish Radio Orchestra, Wagner’s Wesendonck-Lieder with the OFUNAM-Symphony Orchestra in Mexico-City and the Miskolc Symphony Orchestra. With the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra and the Stockholm Symphoniy Orchestra she performed Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.
Besides, Elisabet Strid works with renowned conductors and stage directors such as Andris Nelsons, Kirill Petrenko, Adám Fischer, Esa Pekka-Salonen, Cornelius Meister, Axel Kober, Ivan Anguélov, Lorin Maazel, Ulf Schirmer, Kent Nagano, Frank Castorf, Stefan Herheim, Barbe & Doucet, Aron Stiehl, David Pountney, Dietrich Hilsdorf, Calixto Bieito.
Her future engagements include LISA in „Pique Dame“ in Düsseldorf, SENTA at the Stuttgart State Opera, GIORGETTA at the Norske Opera, MARIETTA in „Die tote Stadt“ at the Helsinki National Opera and SALOME in Leipzig and at the Tel Aviv Opera and her debut as VENUS and ELISABETH at the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
In 2017 her first CD “Leuchtende Liebe” (Beethoven & Wagner) was released at the Oehms Classic label.
