The young Swedish soprano Christina Nilsson took her master’s degree at the University College of Opera, Stockholm, in 2017. During the spring of 2017 Christina was a guest artist at the Opéra de Lyon, where she sang the role of the Overseer and covering the role of Chrysothemis in Elektra.
Nilsson has appeared as one of the Three Noble Orphans in Der Rosenkavalier and as Anna in Min bror är Don Juan at the Royal Swedish Opera. She has sung the roles of the Magician in Son of Heaven and Geltrude in Enrico di Borgogna at the Vadstena Academy, and the Singer in Hos Oss. She has also often appeared in concert as a soloist, at venues such as Berwaldhallen, the Stockholm Concert Hall and the Royal Palace in Stockholm.
Christina Nilsson won the first prize and the audience prize at the 2016 Wilhelm Stenhammar International Music Competition. She has received many scholarships and grants, including the Birgit Nilsson Scholarship in 2015 and grants from the Royal Swedish Academy of Music in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Nilsson was named a Jenny Lind Scholar in 2014 and received the Vadstena Academy’s scholarship in 2012.
Nilsson is from Ystad, Sweden. She moved to Stockholm to undertake upper secondary studies at the music school Lilla Akademien. She then studied for two years at Vadstena Folkhögskola before commencing bachelor’s and master’s studies at the University College of Opera, Stockholm.
