American born Heroic tenor Brenden Gunnell made his debut at the Göteborg Opera as Loge in Das Rheingold.
His repertoire includes the title role in Britten’s Peter Grimes, Jimmy Mahoney in The Rise and Fall of The City of Mahagonny, the title role of Idomeneo, and Erik in The Flying Dutchman. He made his debut at Glyndebourne Festival in 2015 in Die Entführung Aus Dem Serail. His operatic engagements also include Hüon de Bordeaux in Weber’s Oberon at the Opera Festival of the Bavarian State Opera, David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in Beijing, Sergey in Lady Macbeth from Msensk for Birmingham Opera Company, Jenik in Prodana nesta for the Garsington Festival Opera, the Prince in Rusalka at the Glyndebourne festival, Tom Rakewell in The Rake’s Progress at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma.
He has sung in Mahler’s 8th Symphony with the Dortmund Philharmonic, with Gabriel Feltz, and at Maggio Musicale da Firenze with Fabio Luisi. Following his success with The Dream of Gerontius with the Hamburger Symphoniker, he was invited to perform the role again at Kings College Cambridge where he has also sung Verdi’s Requiem. He has also performed Mahler’s Das Lied von Der Erde with the Hamburger Symphoniker.
