American born Heroic tenor Brenden Patrick Gunnell made his debut as Hüon de Bordeaux in a new production of Weber’s Oberon at the Opera Festival of the Bavarian State Operain June, 2017. His repertoire includes the title role in Britten’s Peter Grimes, Jimmy Mahoney in The Rise and Fall of The City of Mahagonny, the title role of Idomeneo, Erik in The Flying Dutchman, Loge in Das Rheingold and Siegmund in Die Walküre. He made his debut at Glyndebourne Festival in 2015 in Die Entführung Aus Dem Serail.
Recent and future operatic engagements include David in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (June 2018) for the National Centre for Performing Arts, Beijing, Sergey in Lady Macbeth From Msensk for Birmingham Opera Company and the role of Jenik in Prodana nesta for the Garsington Festival Opera.
In concert Brenden recently sang in Mahlers 8th SYMPHONY with the Dortmund Philharmonic, with Gabriel Feltz, and has been invited to perform in the 8th again at Maggio Musicale da Firenze with Fabio Luisi. Following his recent success with The Dream of Gerontius (a central work of Brenden’s repertoire) with the Hamburger Symphoniker for the Rheingau Festival, he was invited to perform the role again at Kings College Cambridge. He has also performed Mahler’s Das Lied von Der Erde with the Hamburger Symphoniker.
