Bjorn Dobbelaere is an internationally renowned crossover conductor who, over the years, has conducted classical and pop music concerts as well as numerous musical theatres, musicals, operettas and operas.
Bjorn Dobbelaere has worked with a number of musicals in Belgium and was recruited to London as Musical Director for the West End's original productions of Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera. Other musicals include the Fiddler on the Roof and the Wizard of Oz in addition to which, Bjorn Dobbelaere was the Musical Supervisor for Cameron Mackintosh’s acclaimed production of Les Misérables in Rotterdam.
At the Göteborg Opera, Bjorn Dobbelaere was the Musical Director/Supervisor for productions such as Miss Saigon, Cats, Mary Poppins and Romeo and Juliet where he was also responsible for the concept. Other musicals include Guys and Dolls and The Phantom of the Opera. In the autumn of 2009, Bjorn conducted the Göteborg Opera's production of Cats at Cirkus in Stockholm. Bjorn also conducted and was musically responsible for the recent production in Amsterdam of Soldier of Orange.
Alongside his career as a conductor, Bjorn Dobbelaere’s keen interest in education awarded him the role of Head of Musical Theatre at the Royal Academy of Music in London from 2012 until 2015. In 2016, Bjorn made his debut as Musical Director for the musical Spring Awakening at the Culture Square Theatre in Shanghai. At Kulturhuset Spira in Jönköping, Sweden, he conducted the Fiddler on the Roof and was musically responsible for the musical On the Town.
