About dance

About dance

GöteborgsOperans Danskompani is equal to cutting-edge contemporary stage art. The works you’re invited to experience are most often created exclusively for us by some of the foremost artists of today’s dance world, who go beyond norms and dare to push boundaries. We mix dance, architecture, video, music and other disciplines. The results explore the space between body and stage, and forces us to new discoveries.

Dance is an experience

Watching dance should move you. What happens to you is beyond the rational and intellectual. The contemporary dance you experience with us seldom involves a story; it’s not to be “understood”. We aim to change the perception of art. Going to see a dance performance should be a whole new experience.

A dance company in an opera house

GöteborgsOperans Danskompani is one of few contemporary dance companies under the umbrella of an opera house. Our varied, international and daring dance repertoire expands even further by collaborations with The Göteborg Opera Orchestra and Chorus. Examples of this are our Marie Chouinard version of The Rite of Spring (2013), Interfacial Scale by Hiroaki Umeda (2013) and the double bill programme Spirit by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Saburo Teshigawara (2014).

On tour

GöteborgsOperans Danskompani performs at The Göteborg Opera stages as well as on tour – both national and international. The past seasons, we have accepted invitations to Kennedy Center, Washington DC, White Bird, Portland and Carolina Performing Arts, Chapel Hill (USA), Israeli Opera, Tel Aviv (Israel), JuliDans, Amsterdam (Holland), Tanzmesse, Düsseldorf (Germany), December Dance, Brügge (Belgium) and Dansens Hus, Oslo (Norway).
