Glimpes from Season 2020/2021
Each year we present the upcoming season at a live event, creating a show filled with music, dance and joyful expectations. Here on this page, we present you with upcoming glimpses of the season ... but not as we usually do.
Although things aren't proceeding as normal this spring, we still have many things we would like to share with you. So we're presenting our new season with three films: one for opera, musicals and concerts, one for dance, and one for our department for participation and learning, called Skapa. You can watch and re-watch these films any time you wish, up until the season kicks off at the end of August 2020.
You can lean back on the sofa and watch all three films in a row, or pick out the chapters or genres you’re particularly interested in, and rewatch your favourites? You decide!
You can use the icons in the bottom right corner of each video window to choose chapters, toggle full-screen mode and subtitles in Swedish, or adjust the volume and resolution.
Enjoy the show ...
Operas, musicals and concerts
”Willkommen! Bienvenue! Welcome! The opening number in the musical Cabaret welcomes the audience with an unusual directness. The first phrase and the words that follow it, “Happy to see you!”, couldn’t be more apt. We’re really looking forward to you seeing you join us to share the wonderful stories we’ve chosen for the 2020/2021 season. We welcome you to a season packed with powerful stories and personalities – and, of course, wonderful music.”
— Henning Ruhe, Artistic Director, opera/drama
Listen to ”Älskade man” from the newly composed opera Mytomania, get a sneak peek from Cabaret, enjoy sections Norma and Siegfried, the upcoming Beethoven Marathon and ”Va‚ pensiero” from Nabucco.
“With its unfailing power and capacity to touch hearts and explore relevant themes, dance has a given place in the contemporary world. GöteborgsOperans Danskompani is on a continuous quest to break new, innovative ground. We aim to be rebels with the courage to challenge, choose unexpected routes and move boundaries. We continue to passionately pursue our quest to bring you the most exciting, touching and pioneering dance works on offer today. We sincerely hope you will join us on this exciting journey!”
— Katrìn Hall, Artistic Director, dance
Watch glimpses from the dance season 2020/2021. Meet the choreographers Paul Blackman, Christine Gouzelis, Kenneth Kvarnström, Johan Inger, Jo Strømgren and Alan Lucien Øyen, in greetings they filmed themselves, from pruned gardens, up in trees, or deep in the Canadian (?) forest. Also see some dancers from the company present the upcoming creations and what they’re looking forward to in the creative process with the visiting choreographers.
At Skapa we create performing arts together – created by and created for people of all ages. Beginners and performing arts fans, long-time Swedes and recent arrivals, people with all kinds of abilities and disabilities.
Skapa focuses on three areas: children and young people, intercultural projects and creation from the perspective that different perspectives and abilities are valuable. You are always welcome to join us. Yes, we mean you!
