A list of FAQs follows so please keep reading! If you have any other questions or would like more information, please send an e-mail to email@example.com
1. What exactly is Återskapa (Recreate)?
The idea behind Recreate is that a group of young people shall work together with professional artists to create a short new musical theatre piece based on the opera The Valkyrie. We will start from scratch and decide within the group what the piece should sound and look like. And as if that is not enough, you will also be given a short course in the art of conducting music! We promise you five intense and fun-filled days with lots of singing, performing, creating and making new friends.
The new piece will be performed altogether four times on the Göteborg Opera’s Small Stage to an audience of friends, family and specially invited guests.
The Recreate Project is led by the professional artists Johanna Ericsson (Director), Saga Björklund Jönsson (Composer), Teresa Indebetou (Musician) and Ida Rosén Hamrå (Children & Youth Choir Master).
2. Do you have to have done something like this before in order to take part?
No. All you need is a willingness to participate. To create, sing and perform alongside others. You are welcome to apply regardless of what previous experience you have or do not have.
3. I play an instrument/rap/do acrobatics. Can I get involved?
Absolutely! We want to create something from scratch, using the skills of all the participants. There is scope for everything and everyone.
4. Is it free to participate?
5. What are the dates and times?
5 - 8 August: 10.00 am – 5.00 pm
9 August: 10.00 am – 7.00 pm – including the premiere of our new musical theatre piece on the Small Stage (Lilla Scenen) at 6 pm.
You will then perform the piece another three times on the following dates:
22 September - during Göteborg Opera’s Creative Days (Skapardagar).
1 December - before the Göteborg Opera's premiere of Wagner's opera The Valkyrie.
19 January 2020 - in connection with the last performance of The Valkyrie.
6. Do I have to turn up every day?
Yes. We prioritise applications from those who commit to turning up every day and participate in all the performances. The creative process becomes a lot more enjoyable and the end result much improved if everyone involved makes sure to turn up every day.
7. When is the deadline for applying?
There are two application deadlines to think about: Apply by 18 June and you will be notified no later than 21 June if your application has been successful or not. Apply after 18 June and you will be considered for a place if one is available. If there are no places left available, your name will be put on a waiting list.
8. Where does the Recreate Project take Place?
All project activities take place at the Göteborg Opera, near Nordstan shopping centre. The address is Christina Nilsson Gata, 411 04 Gothenburg. The nearest bus stop to Göteborgs Opera is ‘Operan’. You can also get off at the bus/tram stops ‘Lilla Bommen’ and ‘Stenpiren’. The Älvsnabben Ferry also stops very close to the Göteborgs Opera. Nils Ericsson Bus Terminal and Gothenburg Central Station (main railway station) are both within easy walking distance.
As the Recreate Project is led by two Swedes, the main language spoken will be Swedish. However, as a team, we are more than happy to do what we can to help out with any other languages. You will feel very welcome whatever language you speak.
10. What should I wear?
You do not need to wear any specific types of clothes or shoes. The most important thing to think about is that you can move easily and freely.
11. Do I need to bring my own food and drink?
We will provide drinks and snacks. Please bring your own lunch! Everyone will have an hour’s lunch break so there is enough time to nip out and buy your lunch should you prefer to. Another alternative is to buy your lunch from the Opera staff canteen where there is also the possibility of heating up your own food.
