The three choreographers, Saarinen, Fonte and Duato each present fantastic productions of their ballets. Between them they have achieved a magical atmosphere, interweaving light with darkness. During the course of White/Light/Night we become acquainted with all three of them.

Transfigured Night by Tero Saarinen, with its powerful use of lighting, tells the story of a journey towards the light. Arnold Schönberg’s music is performed by the Göteborg Opera Orchestra conducted by Mats Rondin. This work was previously performed for the programme Perpetum.

Nicolo Fonte, the man behind RE:Tjajkovskij, has chosen the Göteborg Opera as the venue for the world première of his new work Somewhere Light. The work has a bright, positive quality and displays the twinkle in Fonte’s eye. The music by Franz Schubert is performed by a piano trio.

Nacho Duato’s White Darkness has its Swedish première in Göteborg. This dramatic work with its suggestive body movement has had success on many of the world’s stages. The Göteborg Opera Orchestra and a string quartet perform the music of the Swedish-Welsh composer, Karl Jenkins. The conductor is Mats Rondin.
