Die Zauberflöte

A dream play about the power of love.

Opera in 2 acts by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756–1791). Libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder.
Performed in Swedish, translation by Rikard Bergqvist.

”A brilliant, daring production”Göteborgs-Posten, 2009

“Come and see it and bring everyone you know,” wrote Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter’s reviewer following Die Zauberflöte’s (The Magic Flute) premiere at The Göteborg Opera in 2009.

Julia Sporsén (Pamina)

In director RIKARD BERGQVIST’s dream play, the work’s religious theme has been toned down in favour of the story and the struggle for love. Serious content is expertly interwoven with exuberant comedy, all interpreted through Mozart’s tremendous music, packed with beauty and drama.

The roles of the lovers Tamino and Pamina will be sung by Danish tenor Adam Frandsen and Swedish soprano Julia Sporsén, who had the critics exclaiming such words as “brilliance” when she sang the principal role in John Adams’ A Flowering Tree here in 2015. Die Zauberflöte will be Conducted by Henrik Schaefer, Musical Director of The Göteborg Opera Orchestra.

Costume designs by Tomas Sjöstedt
