Charlie Chaplin’s silent movie accompanied by the Göteborg Opera Orchestra. The evening will start off with a concert inspired by city sounds, before the stage transforms into a movie theatre for the screening of Chaplin’s classic.
We will be screening this classic and beloved silent movie while the Göteborg Opera Orchestra performs the score – written by CharlIE Chaplin himself. Charlie Chaplin plays a tramp who falls in love with a blind flower girl. While he pretends to be rich, he tries to accumulate money in all sorts of ingenious ways to be able to pay an eye-operation for the girl.
The evening begins with two orchestral pieces, one of which is George Gershwin’s popular An American in Paris (1928), inspired by the composer’s own time in Paris during the 1920s. Listen for the city atmosphere with honking car horns in the orchestra pit!
