Skid & Decadance Gothenburg
A new chance to be captivated by these two masterpieces.
Skid
Creation by Damien Jalet
”Performed by some of the world’s best dancers”— Dagens Nyheter
”The last scene is worth seeing over and over again”— Göteborgs-Posten
GöteborgsOperans Danskompani never resists a challenge. In Skid, the stage is raked at an angle of 34°. The slope sparks chain reactions of stunning, and strangely poignant events amongst the dancers, who are set in motion by the force of gravity. The company are united in the struggle against this downward force – and in having the courage to let go. The play of light and shadow created by the dancers on the slope creates a cinematic stream of beauty.
Skid was a smash hit at its world premiere here last season and is now in demand for guest performances across Europe. In 2017, French-Belgian choreographer Damien Jalet was nominated for two of the top awards in the dance world – the German Der Faust award and Tanz magazine’s critics’ poll for Best choreographer.

Decadance Gothenburg
Creation by Ohad Naharin
”Worth its own journey to Gothenburg”— Kulturnytt i Sveriges Radio
“It makes you happy!”— Dagens Nyheter
Decadance Gothenburg by the Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin (“Mr Gaga”) is a collage from his repertoire, presented here in a version created exclusively for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani.
Ohad is an icon in the dance world. As a choreographer, he has created a unique style based on Gaga, his own movement language. Decadance Gothenburg was called an “inviting hour in dance paradise” by the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter. Rarely has a dance audience cheered as loudly as when it first appeared on our stage in autumn 2017. “Brilliantly beautiful!” wrote Borås Tidning, while Göteborgs-Posten exclaimed: “GöteborgsOperans Danskompani dances masterfully, both for and with its audience. See it while you can!”
Introduction to the performance
The Small Stage, 1 hr before each performance (except the premiere)
Take the opportunity to learn more about the performance and get insight into the story and the background. Introductions take place either on our Small Stage an hour before opera and dance performances (but are not held before premieres, guest performances or dance performances which have a physical introduction).
Introductions do not cost anything extra, use your performance ticket to enter. Introduction take about 20 minutes and are presented in Swedish. They are popular, so come early to make sure you get a seat!
