Sing along!/ Existence
A firework display of songs for the whole family.
A choral work by John Barber (b. 1980) and Susanna Lindmark. Libretto by Hazel Gould.
Welcome to a concert for the whole family! A concert in two halves packed with sing-along numbers and a brand new work for young singers.
The concert begins with a sing-along tribute to the joy of choir singing, in which the audience is invited to join the Göteborg Opera Children's Chorus and younger members of the Youth Chorus in renditions of well-known songs. The Göteborg Opera Orchestra will accompany the Choruses on stage while the audience sing along from the hall.
The second half of the concert is a performance of Existence, a new one-hour choral work specially commissioned for older members of the Göteborg Opera Youth Chorus and the Arctic Light youth choir from Norrbottensmusiken. The choral work is based on the young singers’ own accounts of what it’s like being young today, differences and similarities between rural and urban areas, and the importance of family trees to your identity. Composer John Barber and librettist Hazel Gould are a British duo that has worked with the Göteborg Opera Children’s and Youth Choruses on several occasions, most recently in the opera Euridice’s Song, which was performed at the Choruses’ 10-year anniversary celebration in May 2019.
Existence will be performed for the first time in Norrbotten, where it will go on tour in the spring.
