”Ecstatic energy”— The Guardian
On a stormy night a long time ago – at some point in the 21st century – researcher Dr. Prospero managed to calculate a formula that could change the world. His apparently loyal wife, Gloria, stole the formula and sent her husband straight out into what was termed hyperspace in an old spaceship. What Gloria did not know was that their daughter, the baby Miranda, was asleep in the vessel and was now catapulted light years into the future along with her father.
Years later, Captain Tempest is on a routine mission in outer space. A meteor shower hits his ship, which is sucked into Deliria – the forbidden planet. The adventure begins.
The West End hit Return to the Forbidden Planet won an Olivier Award for Best New Musical (1989). It is inspired by the cult science fiction film Forbidden Planet from 1956 and plays by Shakespeare, especially The Tempest. The musical is brimming with hot 1950s and 1960s hits, including Great Balls of Fire, Pretty Woman, Good Vibrations and Born to be Wild. The story and the songs are interwoven in an entertaining, captivating and cosmically adventurous musical. Shakespeare’s unwritten rock & roll masterpiece!
