Featuring Gustav Holst’s orchestral suite The Planets
Gustav Holst’s orchestral suite The Planets is one of the most popular British orchestral works of the 1900s. On the journey into space, the orchestra passes the planets of our solar system. The fascinating, cinematic music includes everything from warlike rhythms to unearthly beauty.
The Orchestra Concert is opened with La Mort de Cléopâtre by Hector Berlioz, with Ann-Kristin Jones interpreting the despairing queen, followed by the choral work “Snöfrid”, Jean Sibelius’ composition based on Viktor Rydberg poem.
Conductor Olaf Henzold has previously visited The Göteborg Opera with, among others, Der Rosenkavalier, Die Frau ohne Schatten, Arabella, and Rusalka.
