Marilyn Monroe 2006

Marilyn Monroe 2006

Musical theatre production by Leo Cullborg Marilyn Monroe has become an icon. We see her on tea mugs, postcards, T-shirts and bags in shops, department stores and small boutiques. She has become synonymous with Hollywood, the American lifestyle and the 50s. We know that she was the biggest and most photographed female megastar of the 1900s. We know that she died young, perhaps committed suicide and had a relationship with President Kennedy. But who was the person behind the façade? What were her dreams? Why did both the Vatican and the Kremlin send letters of condolence when she died? With the help of what we know about her and a handful of her best and most well-known songs we tell the story of her life as it was; with glitter, champagne and flash-bulbs, but also with anxiety, pills and drawn-down blinds. Through the talents of musical artist, Mia Ringblom Hjertner, and musician Per Larsson the Göteborg Opera will take you on a two-hour journey of discovery to find the woman who was born poor but died an icon for the whole world: Norma Jean Baker – Marilyn Monroe.
