Kristina från Duvemåla is presented in collaboration with Charlotta Teaterproduktion and Blixten & Co.
KRISTINA FROM DUVEMÅLA
Kristina från Duvemåla is a musical by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Lars Rudolfsson, based on the epic emigrant story by Vilhelm Moberg.
The dream of America grows more and more powerful and tempting as a small group of people from Ljuder Parish in Småland suffer famine, oppressive powers that be and religious persecution. The new country has land for everyone and offers a haven and a future to those who have the courage to make the long and perilous journey. It welcomes people who long for the freedom they are denied at home. The bravest of them follow their dream and set out on the dangerous voyage across the Atlantic. Among them we find Kristina, Karl Oskar, Robert and Ulrika.
Kristina från Duvemåla was the first musical performed at the then new Göteborg Opera, premiering in 1996. It is the most successful musical to have played at the opera house. It was first performed in Malmö in 1995.
In 2012, Svenska Teatern in Helsinki was the first theatre outside Sweden to stage this musical. Now we have the pleasure of being able to offer the Swedish audience that production. Taking the lead roles are Maria Ylipää, Robert Noack, Birthe Wingren and Oskar Nilsson – the same quartet as in Helsinki. The production had rave reviews in Finnish as well as Swedish media: "World class" (SR), "A magical masterly musical" (Aftonbladet), "Magnificent, simple and very beautiful" (Dagens Nyheter).
