Concert. The Göteborg Opera Orchestra invites you to an evening of delightful bel canto pieces. Katarina Karnéus and Marie Eriksmoen perform the enchanting vocals.
The Göteborg Opera Orchestra, conducted by Giancarlo Andretta, performs delightful music from the bel canto-era. The beautiful arias will be perfomed by Katarina Karnéus, mezzo soprano, and Marie Eriksmoen, coloratura soprano. Karnéus could last be heard as Romeo in Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchi (August, 2012) while Marie Eriksmoen is a first time guest at The Göteborg Opera.
As its name suggests, bel canto opera is just that: beautiful song. This form of opera from the early nineteenth century in Italy was based exclusively on the songs’ capacity for equilibrium and beautiful vocals that reach right into the soul. Although nowadays the genre denotes operas by Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti and the early works by Verdi, the roots of bel canto can be found in the Neapolitan opera seria, with Handel as its main representative.
