Hair
The rock musical Hair is wild and headstrong, with its timeless message of love blossoming despite the combined threats of war and environmental disaster. Its fabulous musical numbers, flowing narrative, mind-trips and free associations add up to an experience that is a fantastic hybrid between rock concert and theatre.
”Utterly phenomenal ensemble”— Expressen
”Must see”— SR Kulturnytt P4
”A cavalcade of life-affirming songs”— Svenska Dagbladet
”Euphoric energy”— Göteborgs-Posten
Rikard Bergqvist’s Swedish version of Hair brings together talented young musicians, street artists and a rock band. The entire ensemble sings and dances its way through fifty musical numbers and snappy dialogue in an environment filled with exciting visual effects.
While the script is true to the 1967 musical, this show is no Sixties nostalgia trip. Instead, we encounter Claude, Berger, Sheila and the others breaking into a shopping mall – a temple to commercialism. While here, they express their hopes for a better world through song, music and dance – a message just as relevant today as it was back in the Sixties.
Director Rikard Bergqvist’s previous successes at the Göteborg Opera include Die Zauberflöte, My Fair Lady and Carmencita Rockefeller – Princess of Japan.
