Frida’s Songs
An odyssey in Birger Sjöberg’s footsteps.
Revival premiere 31 March 2016 in Vänersborg. On tour in Västra Götaland during spring 2016.
”High-class entertainment”— NLT
”First-class artistry”— SLA
”One of the Göteborg Opera’s mini-performances when they are at their best”— SLA
”A splendid show – living literary history”— SLA
This intimate show pays homage to Vänersborg’s own BIRGER SJÖBERG, who wrote with such feeling and subtlety about his muse and about Lilla Paris, Den första gång jag såg dig, Längtan till Italien and Släpp fångarne loss.
Birger Sjöberg’s beloved songs about Frida are continually being rediscovered by successive generations. Frida’s Songs has been written and directed by the Göteborg Opera’s soloist MATTIAS ERMEDAHL, and was performed first in autumn 2008. Mattias himself performs the piece in his nuanced baritone – sometimes as Sjöberg himself, sometimes as characters from the songs. The concert pianist accompanying him is JOAKIM KALLHED.
Come join us us on this dream-like, vibrant and sometimes comic odyssey in Birger Sjöberg’s footsteps!
