A touch of Taube

Six concerts will be given with the premiere on 29 May.

Concert. A touch of Taube, where three popular artists join forces on the Stora stage.

With Evert Taube as inspiration, Helen Sjöholm, Freddie Wadling and Fredrik Lycke converge with The Göteborg Opera Chorus, Children’s Chorus and Orchestra to create a unique concert with the sea as their theme. Led by conductor Josef Rhedin they welcome the summer with music from Mikael Wiehe, Peter Gabriel, Evert Taube himself and more. Some of Evert Taube’s most beloved songs will be performed in a new format and some of the less played master pieces given new life. The concert will be performed on six occasions.

Fragando, a taste from the concert program.

Helen Sjöholm

Helene Sjöholm

Helen Sjöholm grew up singing, both as part of a chorus and as a soloist. Her big break-through came in 1995 with the title role in the musical Kristina from Duvemåla (Kristina från Duvemåla), which was performed at Malmö Opera, The Göteborg Opera and Cirkus in Stockholm. She has since performed as Fantine in Les Miserables at Malmö Opera; as female lead role Florence in the Swedish version of Chess at Circus, for which she was given a Golden Mask (Guldmask); and Polly in The Threepenny Opera at Stockholm City Theatre (Stockholms Stadsteater). Her most recent role was Eliza in My Fair Lady at the Oscar Theatre (Oscarsteatern), for which she was rewarded her second Golden Mask in 2009. In both 2004 and 2010 she participated in the annual Epiphany Concert at Berwaldhallen.

Helen Sjöholm is also a member and chorus singer in Benny Andersson’s Orchestra (BAO) and recorded her greatest hit so far with them, Du är min man (You are my man), which stayed on Swedish record chart Svensktoppen from 2004–2009. Helen has also toured with Jojje Wadenius and released two of her “own” records, Visor (Songs) (2002) and Genom varje andetag (With Every Breath) (2003). She has participated in Rhapsody in Rock; the tour Speldosa (Music Box) with Björn Skifs; Allsång på Skansen (Sing Along at Skansen); and the TV show Så ska det låta (a Swedish version of Irish The Lyrics Board). Her début as an actress was in Richard Hobert’s 1999 film Där regnbågen slutar (Where the Rainbow Ends) and she has also played Gabriella in Kay Pollack’s 2004 film Så som i himmelen (As It Is In Heaven).

Fredrik Lycke

Fredrik Lycke has participated and starred in untold musicals and operettas since he graduated from Teater- och Operahögskolan (Academy of Music and Drama) in Göteborg. Among the roles can be mentioned Count Danilo in The Happy Widow at Folkoperan in Stockholm; Higgins in My Fair Lady at The Göteborg Opera; Nicky/Trekkie Monster in Avenue Q at The Maxim Theatre (Maximteatern) in Stockholm; Frank N Further in The Göteborg Opera version of The Rocky Horror Show; as well as Molina in Kiss of the Spider Woman (Spindelkvinnans Kyss) and Tony in West Side Story, which were both performed at Malmö Opera. He has also sung the lead role in Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame at Musicalteater Berlin.

Fredrik Lycke also participates in concerts and musicals with, among others, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Fire Brigade Band. He has recorded the children’s programme För alla åldrar (For all ages) which aired on SVT in the autumn of 2009. Fredrik is just as comfortable performing in small, intimate arenas as he is performing in large concerts. His repertoire includes jazz, pop, rock and musical theatre.
