Icons. Religious leaders, politicians, pop stars, role models. We create them, reproduce them, worship them. All until the next regime, culture or trend takes over and replaces them with new ones. Why do we do this? Why do we feel the need to create icons - and destroy the ones we no longer worship? What happens within us when we build them up, and then witness their downfall?

Multiple award winning and constantly topical Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui created Noetic for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani 2014 , along with a distinguished team comprising sculptor Antony Gormley, fashion designer duo Les Hommes, and composer Szymon Brzóska.

The creation explores man’s instinctive need to structure every detail of our existence, and our longing to break free of the rules and discover what lies beyond them. With at times mechanical, at times flowing, classical movements, the dancers construct, change and deconstruct reality.

Untitled Black by Sharon Eyal/Gai Behar is pure, multi-layered, emotional choreography. Through its atmospheric and futuristic movement, embedded in a structure of strong composition, it takes us into a fantastic parallel universe. Live music by DJ Ori Lichtik plays an important role. Untitled Black has been created specifically for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani and eight dancers from Batsheva Dance Company.

The stage floor in Damien Jalet’s Skid is on a 34-degree incline. The human relationship to gravity and the resistance and abandonment bound to it is what sets the dancers in motion. This new landscape of physical possibilities creates a chain reaction of physical and emotional events – dangerous, humorous, moving.

Autodance is prize-winning Israeli choreographer Sharon Eyal's second creation for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani, which she says has been created from pure movement. The dancers appear non-gendered, their accentuated legs making them resemble powerful centaurs. Autodance seamlessly integrates dance, techno and technique; sometimes explosive, sometimes sublime. A visual, emotional, well-structured and highly aesthetic whole.
Sharon Eyal has created a stream of critically acclaimed works for prominent dance companies over the last ten years, with Gai Behar as co-creator.
