Beyond
Magnetic dance at the highest level.
Astounding magic and poetic dance that will move you to tears. The choreographer, acrobat and dancer Yoann Bourgeois’ creations have soul and an enormous heart, touching all aspects of what life is about. To achieve magic, Yoann’s works are often based on a close collaboration between himself, the set-construction engineers and the dancers.
The duo Wang Ramirez combine styles such as hip hop and popping with martial arts, contemporary dance, physical theatre and acrobatics. Their previous works have been performed at prestigious venues such as the Sadler’s Wells in London. The title of this new piece, This is Not Hip Hop, warns us not to expect a certain genre based on the choreographer’s background and prior successes. Quite the contrary.
Neither Wang Ramirez nor Yoann Bourgeois have previously created a piece for an ensemble the size of GöteborgsOperans Danskompani. Beyond will be an astonishing, endlessly surprising programme that will challenge our dancers to break new ground. High above ground level, in fact!

Introductions
Verbal introductions
All dance performances (except premieres and guest performances) begin with an introduction. These ordinary, verbal introductions give you interesting information about the creation, and start 1 hour before the performance. They last about 20 minutes and are held on the Small Stage.
Free admission, limited seating.
Physical introductions
Physical introductions are held on selected dates (watch this space for dates and booking information). They start 1 hour and 15 minutes before the performance begins and last about 45 minutes. You will get the chance to see and try out movements with dancers from the company and other participants, who are as keen as you are to forge a physical connection with the work.
