Dance work by Richard Siegal
On paper, New York-based Richard Siegal's If/Then system looks like secret formulae. In real life, it’s a combination of written choreography and a bank of options which let the dancers compose part of the performance themselves.
"The cast becomes a pulsating dance machine" Svenska Dagbladet
"Highly expressive dance” Göteborgs-Posten
"It is dynamic, consistent and well profiled" Göteborgs-Tidningen
"Hoesch's magnificent rhythmic electronic drumbeats.” Dagens Nyheter
Siegal lets dance come together with other art forms – design, visual art, architecture, music, literature … The result stimulates the mind as well as the spirit, getting the audience involved.
Richard Siegal has been the recipient of a number of prestigious awards and is the founder of The Bakery in Paris. He has worked very closely to William Forsythe. In the yearly critics’ survey of tanz yearbook 2013, Richard Siegal is declared as choreographer of the year and his piece Black Swan as the performance of the year. His work Unitxt, created for the Bavarian State Ballet, has recently been elected for one of the best world premieres of the dance season 2012/2013 in the Dance Europe magazine.
In his creation for GöteborgsOperans Danskompani he collaborates with fashion designer Alexandra Bertaut, composer Lorenzo Bianchi Hoesch, electronic music researcher from Centre Pompidou, and architect/designer Didier Faustino, whose organic set design consists of organic installation elements, used in interaction with the dancers.
