The Göteborg Opera’s opera premières on international radio
Two of this autumn’s opera premières at The Göteborg Opera will be broadcast over the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) network, allowing them to potentially reach a Europe-wide audience as well as being heard in some countries outside of Europe. The first in the series will be the première of I Capuleti e i Montecchi which is scheduled for broadcast in eight countries. Next in line is Rusalka which will be premiered on 22 September.
For some time now it has been possible to listen to most operas at The Göteborg Opera on Swedish Radio either live or, in certain cases, as recorded live performances. Now these broadcasts are being distributed via the EBU radio network, giving them the potential to reach a radio audience throughout Europe as well as the USA. The first broadcast will be the première, Friday 17 August of Vincenzo Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchi with Katarina Karnéus and Kerstin Avemo in the leading roles. The Swiss Italian language channel is broadcasting the concert at the same time as SR P2, Saturday 18 August. In addition, seven other countries have ordered it via EBU for broadcasting at a later date.
The opera Rusalka by the composer Antonín Dvořák, directed by David Radok and with Elisabet Strid and Nikolai Schukoff in the main roles, will also be broadcast via the EBU. Rusalka has its première on 22 September and will be broadcast live on SR P2 that same evening.
The EBU has members in just about every European country, as well as in a few countries outside of Europe, such as, e.g., the USA, Japan, Mexico, Canada, India and Hong Kong.
With kind regards,
The Göteborg Opera
