The Göteborg Ballet invited to The Kennedy Center in Washington
As the only Swedish dance company and Nordic opera house, the Göteborg Ballet has been invited to The John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, one of the most important cultural centres in the USA.
In February and March 2013 The John F Kennedy Center for the Performing Artswill focus on Nordic culture with the festival Nordic Cool. It is said to be one of the centre’s main highlights next year and will show arts and culture from the five Nordic countries as well as from the territories of Greenland, the Faeroe Islands and Åland. It is this festival that The Göteborg Ballet has now been invited to attend.
– We’re very honoured and pleased about this splendid invitation,” says the Managing Director of the Göteborg Opera, Peter Hansson. The Göteborg Ballet had its great breakthrough in North America when we visited the Jacob’s Pillow’s Festival as guest performers two years ago. Now we’re shifting gears in our commitment on the international cultural scene.
– I’m pleased that the Göteborg Ballet is regarded as 'Nordic cool'. This is yet another acknowledgement of our being an international, innovative and significant dance company with a strong identity of our own. We also have many more tours and guest performances in the pipeline next season,” says Adolphe Binder, the Director of the Göteborg Ballet.
"We are thrilled to have the Göteborg Ballet involved with Nordic Cool 2013. We are really looking forward to this exciting festival celebrating the Nordic region! says the management of The Kennedy Center in a comment to the invitation.
The Göteborg Ballet will participate in Nordic Cool between the 11 and 17 th of March 2013.
