Two internationally in-demand choreographers each create a new work for Göteborg Opera Ballet in its first dance performance of the year.
Norwegian Jo Strømgren was a guest at Göteborg Opera Ballet for the first time in 2009. At that time, he choreographed Herzschmerz for the double-feature Dekadens. ”World class" wrote DN. He is now creating his new work Utkanten, a production about the boundary zone between trust and doubt in which cracks start appearing in the secureness of conformity... In his own characteristic way, Strømgren cross-pollinates dance with theatre, and seriousness with absurd humour. Music by Evert Taube, Camille Saint-Saëns and Viljo Vesterinen, among others.
When Stijn Celis created Your Passion is Pure Joy to Me for Göteborg Opera Ballet in 2009, the reviewer for GT wrote: "More, more Stijn Celis for the people of Göteborg!". That meeting with the city of Göteborg gave the Belgian choreographer the inspiration for his new work, Looming Sky. With the constant movement of industry, harbour and sea as his starting point, Celis has created a production in a language that is visually very strong, inspired by contemporary European art. Music by Tony Williams and John Abercrombie, among others.
