The Göteborg Opera at the Göteborgs Kulturkalas cultural festival
For two evenings in August, the Göteborg Opera is moving to the Kulturkalaset stage at Götaplatsen in Gothenburg. Listen to extracts from operas such as Tosca, Die Zauberflöte and West Side Story, and experience contemporary dance in perfect symbiosis with the music of Beethoven.
On 16 August, the Göteborg Opera is participating at the opening ceremony for Göteborgs Kulturkalas, with a concert filled with extracts from the new season's productions. We will be able to listen to pieces from operas including Tosca, Die Zauberflöte and Ledi Makbet Mtsenskogo Uyezda. Sofie Asplund and Bruno Mitsogiannis will display some extracts from Maria and Tony's ill-fated love story in this season's major musical: West Side Story. The concert starts at 6.00 pm, lasting for around one hour. The commère is the Göteborg Opera's Artistic Director Lise-Lotte Axelsson. Admission free.

On 20 August, the Göteborg Opera Ballet will be dancing an extract from Örjan Andersson's choreography for Eroica, which had its world première at the Göteborg Opera in December 2010. Swedish world-renowned pianist Roland Pöntinen will be taking his place at the piano, playing Beethoven's 32 Variations in C Minor. "Music and dance in perfect symbiosis" was what local newspaper Göteborgs-Posten wrote in its review. Following the Eroica suite, Roland Pöntinen will play two solo pieces by Liszt (Tarantelle di bravura from Auber's opera La Muette de Portici) and Wagner (Isoldes Liebestod). The entire performance will last around 30 minutes. Admission free.
