Chess at the Göteborg Opera 2012
Next season's major musical at the Göteborg Opera will be Chess in Swedish. Director: Mira Bartov.
The musical Chess was created by Benny Andersson, Björn Ulvaeus and Tim Rice at the beginning of the 80s. In 1984, Chess was released on LP/CD and two years later the stage version premièred in London. In 2002 Chess in Swedish, a version created by Lars Rudolfsson, premièred at Cirkus in Stockholm. It is this version which will now be performed at the Göteborg Opera, with the première planned for September of 2012.
Mira Bartov is a professor of musical drama performance at the Academy of Music and Drama at University of Göteborg. She was previously the Artistic Director of Folkoperan in Stockholm (2008 to 2011). During the autumn of 2011 she will direct Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail at the Geneva Opera, where she also directed her first international production, the opera Alice in Wonderland, in the spring of 2011. This will be her first production at the Göteborg Opera.
Auditions will be held at the Göteborg Opera on November 21-23. Ads will shortly be placed in newspapers and on www.opera.se
