L'Italiana in Algeri.
Concertante performance of Gioachino Rossin's opera
The Göteborg Opera on Saturday August 28 and Sunday August 29 at 6 pm
We start off the opera season at The Göteborg Opera with a sparkling celebration of song. Internationally acclaimed Swedish star Ann Hallenberg will perform at The Göteborg Opera for the first time.
L'Italiana in Algeri by Gioachino Rossini is a masterpiece within the opera buffa genre. The Göteborg Opera production is a concertante version with seven soloists, a male choir and orchestra. We’re pleased to present our Swedish superstar Ann Hallenberg in the title role as Isabella (the Italian Girl). The part has become her signature role, and she has previously performed it at several of the great opera houses.
Of equally high international standing is Italian Andrea Patucelli , who sings the role of the ruthless and lecherous Mustafà and Russian Maxim Mironov, who sings Lindoro’s extremely high tenor passages. The Göteborg Opera soloist Markus Schwartz gets yet another opportunity to show off his comical and vocal abilities in the role of Isabella’s faithful servant Taddeo, who nurses an unrequited love for Isabella.
L'Italiana in Algeri also marks the start of Giancarlo Andretta’s appointment as our principal guest conductor. This season he will also conduct our spring production of Lucia di Lammermoor and the plan is for him to conduct an opera production and a concertante performance each season.
Première on Saturday August 28 at 6 pm. Will also be performed on Sunday August 29 at 6 pm. The performance lasts three hours and fifteen minutes, including a break.
