Premiere on the Göteborg Opera Skövde Stage, Saturday September 25, 2010, 6 pm.
Her husband’s name was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Outliving him by fifty years, she preserved his masterpieces for posterity. A new musical theatre production lets us get to know Mrs Constanze Mozart.
Constanze Mozart found herself widowed and left with two small children before she even turned thirty. Her husband was deeply in debt at the time of his death. Constanze, musically talented and a business woman to boot, took charge of her husband's estate and ensured his music was published. When she fell in love again - this time in a Danish diplomat - she moved to Copenhagen.
Göteborg Opera stage director Göran Gademan has written the script and chosen the music for Mrs Mozart. In order to create the right atmosphere, Gademan has gone through countless articles and listened to a large variety of music composed during the relevant époque (1762-1842). In addition to music composed by W.A. Mozart himself we will also hear works by his son Franz Xaver Mozart and other composers including Franz Schubert and Carl Maria von Weber.
Constanze Mozart is portrayed by Göteborg Opera soprano Carolina Sandgren. Pianist Jonas Olsson and clarinet player Ola Persson perform the roles as musicians Mr Arnesen and Mr Jensen. Mrs Mozart is directed by Iwar Bergkwist, who has written and directed a large number of productions both within Sweden and abroad.
Mrs Mozart will be performed on the Göteborg Opera Skövde Stage from September 25 until October 10, followed by a tour of the region’s community centers and smaller stages.
Media representatives are hereby invited to see selected parts of the production and meet the production crew and performers.
Date and time: Thursday September 16 at 2 pm.
Place: The Göteborg Opera Skövde Stage, Eric Ugglas Plats, Skövde.
