Sunset Boulevard to The Göteborg Opera.
On Saturday 24 October The Göteborg Opera will be teeming with musical performers. On the same day as the premiere of Guys and Dolls there will be auditions held for next year’s big musical performance: Sunset Boulevard.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical had its premiere in London in 1993 and became a great success with 1529 performances. Later during the same year it was produced in Los Angeles, this time with actress Glenn Close in the leading role. This version later came to Broadway and was a box office success there too, with almost a thousand performances. Sunset Boulevard is about the fallen silent movie star Norma Desmond who dreams of making a comeback and sees her opportunity when she meets the young script writer Joe Gillis. The musical is based on the film with the same name from 1950 in which Gloria Swanson played the role of Norma Desmond.
Director Vernon Mound and choreographer Anthoula Papadakis, both from the team that created the successful musical Miss Saigon at The Göteborg Opera 2004–2005, are now the creators of The Göteborg Opera version of Sunset Boulevard, together with David White, who is responsible for the music, and conductor Julian Bigg.
Auditions will be held at The Göteborg Opera on Saturday 24 October and Sunday 25 October. An announcement will be published shortly thereafter.
