On Tuesday 4 August at 10.00 there will be a staff meeting at GöteborgsOperan in preparation for the new season. There are five dancers among the newly employed members of staff.

GöteborgsOperan’s season of 2009/2010 will be opened with a workshop held by the ballet company on the Lilla stage on 14-15 August. GöteborgsOperan’s Ballet will also participate in the inauguration of Göteborgs kulturkalas on 11 August. On 16 August it is time for the traditional Summer Concert on Götaplatsen, the finale of Göteborgs kulturkalas.

Wagner’s ‘The Flying Dutchman’ will be the opera season’s opening performance on the Stora stage as early as August. The opera performance will be a concertante version and it will only be given on two occasions. Following these performances there will be the world premiere of a magnificent opera production, namely ‘Goya’ with music by Daniel Börtz. This winter will bring us the premiere of Mozart’s classic ‘The Magic Flute’ in a new translation by the director, dramaturgist and actor Rikard Bergqvist, who will also be having his début as opera director. At the beginning of next year there will be French sensual opera in the form of Massenet's Thaïs, followed by Wagner's gigantic opera comedy ‘The Mastersingers of Nuremberg’. The opera season will be wound up with a repeat of Puccini’s La Bohème, which was one of last season’s absolute box-office successes.

Colleagues from the international dance elite will be visiting GöteborgsOperan’s Ballet at the end of August for two evenings of Dance Gala on the Stora stage. Classical ballet, contemporary dance and street dance will be presented by conferencier Jonas Gardell. The first premiere of the season will be ‘In Memoriam’, with two new works by Cristina Caprioli and Stijn Celis respectively. After touring Europe and giving guest performances at Dansens Hus in Stockholm the ballet company will be boarding the Stora stage once again just before Christmas with last season’s success production ‘Mozart’s Requiem’. The spring season will start with Mats Ek’s modern classic ‘Sleeping Beauty’ followed by Dansteater’s programme on the Lilla stage with new material by Jeanette Langert and Tilman O’Donnell. The last production of the theatrical year, ‘Metamorphosis’, will be a world premiere for both Johan Inger and Alexander Ekman who will each be creating a choreography exclusively for GöteborgsOperan’s Ballet.

The big-time musical of the season will be the Broadway classic ‘Guys and Dolls’, a new version by the Cats-team Hans Berndtsson and Gunilla Olsson Karlsson. On GöteborgsOperan’s Skövde stage Leo Cullborg’s newly written musical theatre production, ‘Charlie Chaplin – playing with gravity’, will be performed this autumn, followed closely by the dance performance in four parts, Prolog, which will also go on a regional tour. Next spring it will be time for the next musical, ‘The Last Five Years’ by Jason Robert Brown. After a period of performances in Skövde and a regional tour, it will also be performed on GöteborgsOperan's Lilla stage.

Naturally the season will also accommodate the popular family Christmas concert ‘Jultrad-i-ton’ as well as foyer concerts, Saturday concerts etc. Information about GöteborgsOperan’s Ballet’s new dancers is attached below. Christina Bjerkander

Delphine Boutet comes from France and for the last ten years she has been dancing for the National Ballet in Marseille.

Mariko Kida comes from Japan and has worked as a professional dancer in Canada since 2001. For the last five years she has been in Les Grands Ballets Canadiens where she was appointed premiere dancer in 2008.

Stephan Laks is a Canadian-British dancer who has previously worked for GöteborgsOperan’s Ballet. He also has dancing experience from ballet companies such as Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, and for the last few years she has led the dance cooperative Rumpus Room Dance together with Rachel Tess.

Moritz Ostruschnjak is German and has danced with Tanztheater Nürnberg, Nationaltheater Mannheim and others and, most recently, with Introdans in Holland.

Danielle de Vries is newly qualified from Kungliga Svenska Balettskolan in Stockholm. As early as last spring she participated in the dance performance Prolog at GöteborgsOperan on the Lilla stage.
